This is how A-List Actors are dressed when shooting Portraits. This is how their Agencies, Publicists, and even Movie Studios want them perceived in the public eye. In the beginnings of your career as an actor you need to be your own Agent or Publicist. Your perception matters and when casting is viewing your headshots the way they perceive you matters. Think of the saying “He cleans up nice”. People are always impressed by how amazing someone can look when they dress up. No one ever says “They dress down nice”. Because it’s easy to imaging someone in a t-shirt, but it is hard to imagine someone dressed up nicely. It’s why as humans we are always impressed when we see it. You can never be to dressed up for headshots, but you can be to dressed down.

Don’t know how to dress well? Bring a bunch of your wardrobe from home and I will help you piece together outfits during your session. You can never bring too many clothing options to a headshot session, but you can bring too little.

The word of the day is “Layers”. When selecting items for your headshot session I want you to focus on layers. Jackets, sweaters, button up shirts, etc. All can be mixed with simple T-Shirts. If you are lacking ideas for outfits one of my best pieces of advice is to google images of actors whose career and roles are what you are pursuing. A quick Google image search of Leonardo DiCaprio for example can show you how celebrities are dressed during portrait shoots. Also including “Vanity Fair” or “Hollywood Reporter” into those searches yields even better results; for example “Leonardo DiCaprio Hollywood Reporter” will give you this image;
